Hi Cameron,

Sorry to hear about your disaster with OO.I had similar frustrations a
while back when I first tested OO Writer and saved in Word 95 format.

However, it's now the only word processor I use at home -- and that
includes all work I take home (OpenOffice 1.0.1 in Linux, 1.0.2 in
Windows) -- and I write for a living.

One thing that makes a big difference (re formatting) is if you set Word
97/2000/XP as the default save (rather than Word 95).(Tools/Options and
"Load/Save" and General. In the dropdown menu under “Always Save As,”
choose “MS Word 97/2000/XP.”)

I much prefer it to Word 97 and Word 2002, which I use at work. Granted,
I submit everything electronically and don't have to worry about
formatting -- but I still wouldn't write it off.

Good luck,

Pat
