Well I've tried grub-install and everything else I could think of... including repartitioning the HDD to 3 partitions. So I finally took drastic measures and removed gurb and went for LILO. To my surprise no snags, glitches or issues what-so-ever. Worked the first time with no problems. Now the system is up and ready to be used and abused. Boy there is nothing like the feeling after getting something to work. :-D "Now we are so happy, we do the dance of joy..... dye dye dye dye dye dye dye dye dye dye hay hay hay hay hay."

That explains things. I don't recall having to setup a boot partition
in the manual. That is an error on my part. I recall that RH and
Mandrake don't use a /boot partition which was the reason for my
actions. I haven't got any errors with the grub commands root and setup
and with a reboot I only got the message:
GRUB hard disk error

Mandrake may not but RedHat uses a /boot partition.
