well, that and: GUI tools tend to take up more CPU resources, are network hogs if you run them remotely, and broaden the possibility of security breaches if the user can execute arbitrary commands on the system. security flaws in GUI tools on UNIX are really only now being investigated with thoroughness; witness the recent xpdf, *dm, etc flaws that have been found and fixed. i do agree with you that for most people these aren't big enough concerns to not install X... but when you do, please remember that as with all server software installs, only install what you absolutely need to keep the security risks to a minimum. - -- Aaron J.
