For anyone intrested I found a solution for this. I installed kopete and all is well. Funny I just followed Aaron's tip and Tried to install Kopete. I wasn't quite able to install the versions that were on hand, (source nor rpm) so I went digging. I found a message Aaron answered for me earlier about KDE 3, (http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg05890.html) I started thinking that the package might be there. So some more digging I found an RPM of kopete that worked, (ftp://apt.unl.edu/apt/kde-redhat/7.3/RPMS.stable). Wow Aaron, I don't know if I should be sacrificing a virgin penguin at your alter or hide in the corner in fear. Thanks again.

Recompiling gaim will not be solving your problem I suspect. The

both the latest GAIM and Kopete releases work with the new MSN protocol. the
two projects worked together somewhat to figure out the new protocol, code it
into their apps, test it and build packages all before the deadline. pretty
slick.

nicely done. after I responded I checked the gaim site change log and saw the new protocol there... I'm in the process of compiling it and getting the rpm. This is great. I have a friend in Hong Kong who switched her laptop to Linux just before leaving the country... now her msn doesn't work. So this will be great for her.
