COuld try downloading the latest version.....70 I believe.  I use it at work
and we use MSN pretty exsclusively...it is on WIndows so may be slightly
different.  But there was something posted theior about this issue youa re
having and I believe .70 solves it.

Recompiling gaim will not be solving your problem I suspect. The
problem is that MS wants $$ to license programs that use their
protocol. Since gaim doesn't have the funds to pay a per copy payment
to MS... this is likely not to happen. You unfortunately are left
without messenger, regardless of what software you use. They may come
with a way around this... I am currently working on getting MSN
Messenger to work with Wine... Although I have OS X so have messenger
still working, I can imagine that this will be a bad thing for linux
only users.
