If you find you are having troubles with Mandrake 9.2 out of the box, I am
sure anyone of us (me included) would be happy to loan you an older version
of Mandrake and then you could just do the upgrade from the 9.2 disks.  As
with all laptops could check out Linux for laptops (I think that is the
name...but can't recall the URL).  Hell even goggling should yield some good
results for you.

Good luck with your venture...I used to sell HP/Compaq among
others...laptops and found the HP/Compaq's to be a bit more finicky than the
others.
