I've been using Redhat for about a year now and am happy with it. I guess I'm just curious to
try another distro. No complaints about Redhat. I simply want to compare Redhat with
others.
Looks like I'll give SUSE 9.0 Professional a try as soon as I find a copy
of the install CD's.
Thanks for the reply,
Doug

Hi Doug ,
Welcome to the world of Linux and Open source. Fedora is redhat, as you may know. And a good distro with lots of bells and stuff for nubies. Suse and Mandrake
are your other 2 main options. Then would come the fun stuff like..
Now you asked for it: Cluggix :-) Gento , Libra, Lunar, LFS (Linux from scratch) and Slackware, not to mention Debian (8 cds). But if you really using Fedora, then stick with it for a while, get used to it. It is a good representitive of the rpm-based distros like Redhat, Suse, Mandrake and trustix to mention a few. The other family would be the deb-based distros, mainly Debian, Cluggix, Libra, Knoppix. Then you get the third family, the sorce-based like Lunar, Gentoo, LFS, slackware.
Ok. Well. Short of listing a bunch of distros. What could i help you with. What is it that you are missing in fedora per se, what are you looking for.
Cheers Szemir

Hello,
I'm new to the linux arena. I'm curious if a survey has been done to determine the most popular flavour of linux among the Calgary Linux Users Group. I'm currently using Fedora, but am thinking of giving SUSE a try. Which flavour do Cluggers recommend for learning linux with?
Thanks,
Doug (linux newbie)
