Aaron; All good points and all well taken. Thanks.
Don't worry about ranting; I have a very thick skin. My primary reason for relying on Macromedia is that I have already spent the money and have a learned affinity for it. That sort of thing can be unlearned; it just takes a bit of time. The money I spent on that software is also a primary motivator to move to open source. As you noted, using up the remainder of my investment in closed source programs is an interim measure. In the future, if I have to spend money on software, I would rather spend it on Mandrake, Suse, KDE, Wine, etc. than on M$ and others. I am still stuck with the fact that my clients rely solely on M$ Office programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, so I can't get away from using them. (Again, Open Office is not up to the task of importing them and running them on the spot. For most Word or PowerPoint documents you need time to translate them and then fiddle with formatting to make them run smoothly.) I can, however, run Office apps with Wine Rack / CrossOver Office. Well, I have the weekend to mull things over now. Thanks again. ------------------------ Jason Hayes - Principal Hayes Holdings Consulting [EMAIL PROTECTED] / www.hayz.ws Blog: www.hayz.ws/blog #1936 - 246 Stewart Green SW Calgary, AB, Canada T3H 3C8 ------------------------ _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca
