I would suggest that the very first step would be for you to go talk with your Principle. Explain what you are trying to do and why. Explain how this does not impact on the schools network in a negative way, and does not bypass their security. Find documentation to take with you. Be prepared to demonstrate if needed (maybe bring in your lap top for this). Do not criticize the tech in question - if you must criticize, make sure you are criticizing the policies. Don't make it personal.
If that doesn't go well, then it might be suitable for you to setup a meeting with us, or just an email discussion with some of us. Maybe invite the principle and the tech to a CLUG meeting so they can talk with experienced Linux professionals. I just feel that you're bringing in the "big guns" before you need to. You haven't exhausted the options open to you at the school yet. This can be seen in a negative way by your principle. Afterall, now he will start getting emails without understanding why. So the emails may just be treated as spam. My thoughts... not yours.... I will respond to each comment individually, since there are so many. Firstly, I don't want to bring my laptop to school for many reasons. It has a short battery life, is heavy, and I don't want to have to worry about it. Also I want to use it as a server until I get something more suitable. Also, as Dave Lee pointed out, I would be seen as a hacker if I started pulling out network cables and plugging them into my laptop. Remastering Knoppix is not an option, as the tech would still be paranoid and there would be a possibility that others would use the "full-featured" version. For those of you sending e-mails, thank you. I have not discussed the matter with my principal. Our tech is new, so his e-mail address is not posted. You could send it with instructions to forward the e-mail to Mr. Paddock (I think that's how it's spelt). Once again, thank you for all of your support! Long live Linux! _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca
