Man, just be transparent and honest with those in charge. At the end of your secondary schooling, whether you did or didn't get to use Linux/SSH/<insert other cool apps here> at school is not really a deal-breaking issue. If you're up front, you stand a chance. If you don't, you have no chance at all. My 2 cents.
