In some respects it boils down to the question: "Do you want your email to be readable (and responded to) by the most or the least amount of potential responding candidates?"
Looking at it another way, I'm willing to bet that the command-line email people are the most likely to have the answers to the more serious of problems to be encountered on a linux system.
I do not encrypt every post to the mailing list for the same reason I don't use HTML email - I want my messages read by everyone.
