So, if Telus refuses to allow relaying through their mail server and/or forces sender address rewriting one day, you may be hooped unless your SMTP server accepts port 587.

Has anyone else had problems with their email, specifically port 25 SMTP in the following situation?

I know on sendmail SMTP, one can configure it, to listen on port 587 in
addition to port 25; Postfix and Qmail may have something similar.
In my experience, sometimes relaying is permitted, sometimes it's not.
On my network, the clients are configured to send mail through mail.telusplanet.net. If Telus' server goes down, I can send through our hosted mail server outside of the Telus network, but eventually Telus will complain about relaying not permitted, in which case I have to go back to using mail.telusplanet.net.
