IMHO, i believe that the main reason that linux is not ready for the
desktop (and by that, i'm interpreting that this means: ready for mass

computers today have neither the interest, inclination, or training, or
interest in being trained, to use linux effectively. I find that what is

Just because Microsoft has centered itself on producing an OS that
excells in running video games, should Linux? No! Tell 'em to buy a
damn game console instead.
Many of today's youth like FPSes. These run best on PCs, due to
somewhat complex controls. Thus, they will not except the offerings of
a console.
The development community has come up with stuff that's _at least_ as
good, and usually better, than MS style apps, but the GUI isn't quite
what they're used to when running MS style apps. Big deal! You get
that when you go from any computer to another (MS --> Mac --> ...).
The stuff Joe Average's not interested in is far more important;
stability, security, low level performance, upgradability, and
support. He wants fast 3D video for gaming. Why the hell should we
care about that?
Just because MS wants to take over the world, putting Nintendo and
PSII out of business, should Linux too? No. Let's concentrate on
what's right and important.
Why shouldn't we work on support for games? And, at the very least, if
there are games for linux, there should be hardware support for them :)
