This is kind of a poor argument. The reason people use ISP / webmail accounts is because not everyone wants (nor has even the slightest idea how) to setup a mail server. Yes installing a mail server can be quick if you know what you are doing. Most people don't. And they run Windows. Which means you have crappy mail server software choices or expensive ones. And then there is the whole security and maintainence issue of running a Windows, or Linux for that matter, box connected to the Internet. You have to keep ontop of patches and you have to configure it properly. Recommending that people just setup mail servers all willy-nilly is plain dangerous.
You can run a mail server off a dynamic IP but unless you know what you are doing, and again most don't, you'll probably lose mail or annoy people everytime your IP changes. And yes you can do most of this stuff cheaply but you get what you pay for. I run a mail server, you run a mail server, many of the people on this list run one but our skill levels in this area far surpass the majority and we don't mind investing a significant amount of time learning how to do this stuff. For the rest of the Internet e-mail accounts hosted by whoever are a perfectly acceptable option. Jeff
