in some distro's it's in /var/log/boot.log /var/log/boot.log.1 /var/log/boot.log.2 etc.
the other log files in /var/log/ are definitely interesting to peruse, too

If I could scroll back and forth through my boot log I believe that I could learn a little bit about how my computer boots into Linux and could perhaps trim the boot daemons a little for security purposes and use only the necessary boot daemons for my purposes.
