I guess I should reiterate one point... :)

Seeing as Gentoo box is source based, the gcc compiler plays a very important 
role, and gcc is a GNU package.  But, when you look at the number of packages 
on my system as a whole, I believe the GNU packages constitute a very small 
percentage...
