I'm not sure where I got this (maybe the gnu.org site) but I read somewhere
that GNU tools make up about 38% of a typical Linux distro when measured in
lines of source code. The kernel itself is about 3%, and the remainder is
other packages. 

There is an audience video of the event now on the web. The official video
made by UoC com-media is still residing on tape. We hope to convert it to an
open source, oops free software, format and post it on the cuug site soon.
