I have an Acer 3623 and Kubuntu just worked - opengl, wireless, sound - everything.  It has the intel video and sound and an atheros 802.11bg (n draft spec) wireless chip that just work with a 2.6.15 kernel.

I just took a quick look at the specs on the memoryexpress site.  Intel has a project on sourceforge for supporting the centrino chips in open source.  This includes the graphic cards, the intel wireless networking and the audio chip.  The Acer 9412 has this support chips so Juan should have good luck with this piece of hardware.

The computers that have trouble have other wireless chips and sound is have issues right now.  The wireless is usually on a mini-PCI card on most laptops right now.  If that is all that is not working then you can get an Intel 2200 series wireless card to make that work on most computers.

STAY AWAY FROM COMPAQ!  I found out that they have proprietary hardware that prevents using even pc port cards from working in some cases.  Specifically, I tried to substitute a wireless card in a Compaq 2209 with an intel card and the computer issued a message from the BIOS that said that there was an unsupported card and that it refused to boot.

I don't recommend Acer's for running Linux, they're pretty tricky to do. Lots of things don't work.
