Looks like there was a patch in CVS that fixed it for Dapper. https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-tdfx/+bug/44112 , but it looks like the tdfx driver has new issues in 6.10 [ http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_6_10_RC_Released#c3505144 ]. Here's an updated bug report: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-tdfx/+bug/63796
I'm not sure if there's any fixes out there, but this might give you a starting point for your search.
Good luck,

The problem is with video. It seems fine until X starts, then gets all
garbled. I used F4 at boot to select the native resolution for my LCD and
tried both regular and safe video modes with the same result.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to get around this other than "use a
different box"? :) I recall 3DFX not being super supported in Linux, am I
remembering right?
Thanks,
Nick
