-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Or you could pick up a used PCI video card that _is_ better supported, or at least made by a company that still exists. The old TNT cards work great and are cheap (I had one in my dual P3 1Ghz, before I retired it this weekend). For most uses the 2D only open source nv driver is all you need.
You could also manually change the driver in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to be vesa, though personally I despise the vesa driver. Also, the alternate install is a better choice when you have "sub optimal" hardware. 6.06 is still a solid choice, but 6.10 is nice and shiny! :) Also, you need not be afraid of updates, you can manually set your driver in the xorg.conf Nick Wiltshire wrote: > Thanks Darren, > > I found this somehow through your link: > https://features.launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/59618 > > Apparently the xforcevesa kernel parameter is being overridden by X.
