I recently installed Mandriva 2007 on my laptop (which was running MDK9.2 up
till now) and was really happy to discover that now all the hardware buttons
(volume, suspend, scroll) work. Unfortunately, I ran into other (software)
issues. Anyone else running into any of these, or is it just my system...

--- KWeather Applet doesn't work ---
No matter what station I pick, when I try Weather Report, I get "Unknown
Station" and "Station reports that it needs maintenance"...even from LAX! (I
doubt that there are problems with LAX).

It appears as though the "Configure Kweather" dialog box is unable to actually
write to the config files. For example, when I select "Show icon only" it
continues to display the text next to the icon.

To fix this:
 - Remove the applet from the panel
 - Edit the ~/.kde/share/config/KWeatherServicerc file and add my station
(stations=CYQL).
 - Edit the ~/.kde/share/config/weather_panelappletrc file and add the station
(report_location=CYQL). I also changed the view mode to get rid of the text
(smallview_mode=1).
 - Add the applet again...works fine.

--- KLaptop Icon doesn't show up in system tray if icons are set to
semi-transparent ---
This one took a while to find...The KDE Theme > Icons config dialog box
permits semi-transparent icons on the panel, but the KLaptop battery monitor
icon will not show up if icons are set to semi-transparent (there is a space
where the icon "is" and its tooltips work...just no icon). Worse, is that if
the icons are changed to semi-transparent, the KLaptop icon doesn't disappear
until the next time KDE starts, so if one uses suspend or hibernate a lot,
rather than shutting down, suddenly the icon is gone for no apparent reason.

To fix this:
- Uncheck the semi-transparent icons option.
- Restart KDE to see the KLaptop Icon.

--- Creating a new Boot-splash theme ---
When using the Mandrake Control Center tool to create a new Boot-splash theme
(draksplash), the background picture selector (Choose Picture) needs to be
run on both the "Silent Bootsplash" and "Verbose BootSplash" tabs, even
though the image appears in the config window when you choose the picture on
either tab. Otherwise you get a helpful "Please select a splash image" error.

Then, actually convincing Mandriva to use the new splash theme is another
matter altogether...it insisted on using the default "FREE" 2007 image
in /usr/share/mdk/backgrounds/ so I finally ended up overwriting the default
images with my own images. It still refuses to use my preferred font and
text, but I'll keep poking away at it...

--- Jpilot segfaults when changing any record ---
Haven't found a solution to this one yet...changing any record and
clicking "Apply Changes" or deleting any record causes jpilot to segfault and
close and the record that was edited is gone. The record can be recovered by
deleteing any .pc3 files in ~/.jpilot but to edit a record, it needs to be
copied first. It can then be changed and saved without losing the record (or
the program), until the next hotsync. Then the process repeats...

I tried kpilot, but there are even bigger problems there that make it
copletely useless.

I've reported the KWeather, kpilot, and jpilot issues to qa.mandriva.com but
haven't heard any solutions yet. I wonder how many of these issues are
Mandriva-specific or do other distros have these same problems?
