While it is cairtainly possible to install ubuntu Linux from a flash drive, maybe your problem isn't where you think it is. you might want to give the Ubuntu alternate installer a try, a bit less comfortable but uses a lot less (energy) to install. http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu-releases/gutsy/ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso Now this is 7.10 and Intel , if you need the 64 bit version it is also available on the same mirror. Ubuntu does take a considerable amount of power to install specially with the live cd. If you still want to do the usb drive installation, check first if your laptop supports booting from the usb drive ...
