While it is cairtainly possible to install ubuntu Linux from a flash drive,
maybe your problem isn't where you think it is. you might want to give the
Ubuntu alternate installer a try, a bit less comfortable but uses a lot less
(energy) to install. Here is a link to the latest ubuntu Linux alternative
installer :
http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu-releases/gutsy/ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso
Now this is 7.10 and Intel , if you need the 64 bit version it is also
available on the same mirror.
Ubuntu does take a considerable amount of power to install specially with the
live cd.
If you still want to do the usb drive installation, check first if your laptop
supports booting from the usb drive ... Then we talk again :-)

Hi
I have a notebook and used to work with Windows XP on it. About a month
ago, while I was burning a CD, it suddenly shouted down and from then on,
it happens ever now and then. I had an expert company to check the computer
and they said everything seems OK.
Recently, when I tried to install ubuntu 7.04 from its CD on this notebook,
it alerted me that the CPU is over heated and the installation should be
terminated. As I guessed the CD drive may make the problem, I thought of
installing from a flash drive. But, I couldn't find any reference on the
Internet to do so.
I am familiar with computer hardware and software, but it is my first
experience with Linux.
I want to know if it is possible to install ubuntu 7.04 from a flash drive
and if not, what are the other options I have.
Thanks in advance
Behnam

Thanks to everyone, I could fix my laptop and install ubuntu 7.10 from
the addressed link which obviously put much less load on CPU.
