Hi Dan, For a 'beginer level' editing I would suggest Kino (http://www.kinodv.org/) and Q DVD Author (http://qdvdauthor.sourceforge.net/), both are available in 6.06 LTS (however the packages might be slightly out of date by now).
There is an article on Q DVD Author here: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8566 For more professional editing you could try Cinelerra, but this is a bit quirky and difficult to drive. You'd still need to use Q DVD Author or something to master the DVD.
