Jesse,

I tried to do the same a few months back; but had a real hard time
getting all the pieces working. I was using a WinTv HVR-950 and never
managed to get it working under MythTV, Freevo, LinuxMCE and/or
Mythbuntu. I managed to compile TVTime but never got the USB audio to
work. I guess if I had used a different tuner (a PCI, as opposed to USB,
etc) or built a system (hardware-wise) from the ground up to the task I
would have gotten different result; but I got discouraged and decided to
use the software it came with under Windows...

My suggestion to you is to
1) Decide what do you want the application to accomplish (i.e what
functionality you want/need, etc.)
2)Go to the pages for these applications: MythTV, Freevo, and/or
Mythbuntu. Get a feel for what they can and can't do...
3) Decide which application you want to use and check the hardware
requirement for it (i.e which tuner card are supported, etc.).
4) Build/adapt a system (hardware) around these specifications.

Hope that helps..
