Just to be fair to Linux this is not a Linux problem. When you buy a device
like that and it will only work with Windows is because Microsoft is
bullying hardware manufactures to change their driver requirements to that
these devices will no longer work with Linux.

It would be nice if Microsoft spent more time on product improvement and
less time trying to sabotage their competition but what do you expect from a
software company that employs more lawyers then they do computer programmers
and spends 10x more on advertising then they do on R&D.

Your best bet to buying equipment that will work with Linux when you get it
home is look for a sticker on the box that says it works with Windows and
Mac. If it only has a works with Windows sticker then it is a good chance it
will only work with Windows. Same can be said the other way, if the device
only has a works with Mac sticker then you should not buy that either.
