Dan,
I've used Slakware on the desktop for several years without any 'major'
issues (i.e running into a problem for which I could not find a
solution). Granted one has to roll up one's sleeves and 'get dirty'; but
the result is just the same (I guess I could be described as one of
these 'people who live to tinker or [a] control freak'). The whole
challenge thing was part of a greater argument we had a couple of days
ago and was not based on my own personal experience.
Cheers,

Here is a challenge:
Take a trip to your local Office Depot and grab some peripherals at
random (printer, network cards, etc.) see how many of these devices will
work right out of the box in both Windows and
GNU/Linux; then see how easy and/or intuitive would be to "get
everything to work" in both OS.
Try this and get back to me (or the general list)
Hi Juan,
Would you expect the same hardware to be MacOSX compatible? I gave up
on Slackware nine years ago. Its OK for one of light weight servers
(debateable) but on Desktops it should be left to people who live to
tinker or control freaks. I have used a Linux Desktop exclusively for
the last eleven years and Google my hardware choices in "advance of
purchasing them" Everything I have is just detected (including my
network colour laser printer) right out of the box. I have never had
it so easy as I have now on U/Kubuntu 9.04.
All the best, Dan
