Like John said, directional antennas would be the simplest option.  If
you had reliable power to the barn you put a wifi AP that supports WDS
(basically it is an AP with its backhaul on the same wireless network).
 I have done a lot of point to point with wireless, but I had a decent
budget to work with.

The most cost effective solution for you would be to buy a Linksys
router that you can load an open source firmware like openwrt.  Then
when you create the AP you want the option that has WDS.  Check the
documentation at http://www.openwrt.org for more details.

You could also do this manually with a linux box and a supported wifi
card.  I know that the voyage Linux default interfaces.conf file has
some good examples (http://linux.voyage.hk/).
