On a related issue with regard to the library and DRM... DVD's are not really a good medium for the library. They wear out and are not robust. A memory stick would be better. If they are not already viable soon they will be.
Note that the DVD format itself does not stop copying. Its easy to rip a DVD and if not then the analogue signal can be recorded. Of course they are trying to shut this down. My point is that our legal system has already found that when we buy something we have the right to move it to another media. These rights are being taken away. On yet another related issue... peak oil. Why is it that I have to drive across town to get physical copies of DVD's for instance when we should be able to pull them over the net? These are our non-renewable natural resource which we are wasting. However there is a worse threat. The moment that the video and music industry can shut down the libraries then I expect they will. Stallman wrote an essay on the right to read and I think he hit the nail on the head. We really need to fight this. _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
