The QI risk for Dehydration is not adjusted like some other QIs. It is considered a SENTINEL EVENT and will flag if the ICD 9 code for dehydartion is used, or if J1c (Dehydrated; out put exceeeds intake) is checked. I try not to check it if at all possible. Also. if a resident was admitted to hospital w/ dx dehydration, it is usually resolved by the time they're admitted to SNF, so I rarely use that ICD 9 code. This won't help the numbers now, but may help in the future.

Subject: QI - Dehydration

Just looking at our QI's, & I'm trying to understand why the dehydration percentile rank was so high (86), when the # in the numerator was only 2.  Any help I could get to understand this would be greatly appreciated.  Also, if "end stage disease, 6 or fewer months to live" is checked, are these residents excluded from the numerator?  Thank-You!
