Resident needs an 0/5. However, if softwear is a problem you have no choice but to do an 0/1. As far as Surveyors go, I not had a problem when I've done an 0/1 instead of an 0/5, but who really knows....... Most likely will depend on their mood, and how hard they have to look to find deficenices.

Thank you....but

Is there a problem with doing a 0/1 vs. 0/5 ?

History, the software package we had did not allow for the readmission assessment so in place of the that the facility was completing 0/1 (in other words) another 5 day assessment.  This was to recapture the continuance of MC...and it kept everything clean until the software company did their annual updates.
To be honest with you, I still am not sure if the software will complete 0/5 Readmission/Return it had not up to the time I left in Sept.  However, the good news is that there was an update....so perhaps this has been fixed and for future assessments this will be a mute point.

But my question still remains....if the software has not been updated do you see any regulations that will cause facility heartburn over the completion of another 0/1?

A Readmission/Return Assessment is used ONLY when a Med A is continuing, i,e.... the resident was DISCHARGED briefly and returned to facility in the same benefit period. A new 5 day assessment is used when the resident is starting a new Med A stay... i.e..... resident was issued a denial letter due to no longer requiring skilled services, but 20 days later returns to Med A because they are within their 30day wuindow.

Subject: Quick question for the group-return assessment

To the group....

Can a resident that has been D/C'd (prior to initial assessment) to the hospital with a return anticipated completed and re-entry completed after the 2 day hospital stay....begin with a 5-day assessment once again or must it only be a return assessment...or will either one due.

Other than the RAI Manual... please provide regulation sites.
