Jen,The rules for transmitting PPS assessments are the same as transmitting OBRA assessments. They must be transmitted within 31 days of completion. The change that most of us make with PPS transmission is that the assessements must be accepted into the state data before the Medicare bills can be sent. We transmit PPS assessments early, especially at the beginning of the month so that we can send out the Medicare bills. Residents who are admitted at the end of the month will have ARDs in the early part of the following month. We need to complete their MDS and transmit it so that the previous month's bills can be sent together.

Subject: starting PPS in AprilI have been doing OBRA assessments for 5 years now. In 1998 I did do PPS however it has changed . I did take the "course" in 2003 thru AANAC and have one more class to be certified. However our facility just had a meeting and will begin having several meetings in the future to create policy's/procedures etc for our new medicare unit. We watched a video from HCPRO called "medicare made easy". They said something about transmitting the assessments "timely". Does this mean every day? How often do you all transmit PPS assessments? Also if anyone has any helpful policy's /procedures to get us started, worksheets etc. I would really appreciate it.
