Hi
Jen,
I saw your
post and contacted the author of the video "Medicare Made Easy," Kitt
Wakeley. Here is his answer for you:
To
answer your series of questions, by
timely, there is nothing written in stone. Of course, the mandate is
for assessments to be
transmitted within 31 days of the R2b date.
(This is the date that the RN signs off as complete.)
However, by transmitting all of your assessments every 30 days, this
could result in a very time consuming task of correcting a lot of errors at
once. Thus, most facilities prepare their Medicare assessments according to the required timeline
of day 5, 14, 30, 60 and 90. In turn, they lock down the assessments based on
the dates required. Finally, assessments are transmitted on a weekly
basis.
This
protocol is common and only a recommended system of operations. It is certainly
subject to scrutiny and any fine-tuning
where necessary. Daily transmissions are probably a little much. Weekly
submissions seem to keep everyone in check.
If you

I have been doing OBRA assessments for 5 years now. In 1998 I did do
PPS however it has changed . I did take the "course" in 2003 thru AANAC and
have one more class to be certified. However our facility just had a meeting and
will begin having several meetings in the future to create policy's/procedures
etc for our new medicare unit. We watched a video from HCPRO called
"medicare made easy". They said something about transmitting the assessments
"timely". Does this mean every day? How often do you all transmit PPS
assessments? Also if anyone has any helpful policy's /procedures to get us
started, worksheets etc. I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much.
