We are having difficulties with the local hospital in regards to not giving us the IV flowsheets or the IV that is signed off on the mar.  The hospital says that they have changed their charting format, and are not signing them off on the mar, instead they are documenting the IV's in nurses notes.  According to them we cannot have access d/t the HIPAA laws.  Several different people have called and were told the same thing..  We even asked if they could cover up the nurses notes and sent just the IV section. 
Actually, the sharing of this information between healthcare facilities to ensure the continuity of care is acceptable. I think some hospitals are taking this HIPAA stuff to the extreme.
