I think the time for a quarterly is a little off, but I agree with the other stuff.  I think a quarterly should take about 1.5 - 2 hours, with care plan updates, and the care conference note.

My boss stated we complete a full MDS with raps and care plans it should take 6 hrs. For a 14 day and so on 1hr 1/2. For a quarterly it should take 3 hrs. We schedule our day in those time frames. Some MDS always take longer then others. Some are easy with less raps.
She investigated I think the Oscar report. I'll ask her to find out how she developed time lines. There is no way a MDS can be down in 20 mins.

All I can say is they're out in la-la land!

Maybe you can get administration to actually do one in 20 min and then you get to critique it.

They think all MDS should only take 20 min. They also have demanded we do a careplan upon admission(same day as admit) one on the 5 day, a new one on the 14 day and a new one with each quarterly, annual and sign change. Not just revise old c/p but print out a new one. Deb

20 min?  For a comprehensive or full MDS?  Or a Quarterly?  Before IL started requiring full MDS for quarterlies, I could do an uncomplicated quarterly RUGS III MDS in 20 min.

A full MDS takes me anywhere from an hour (for an uncomplicated quarterly or annual) to three hours (for admissions or complicated ones.)

We have just been told from our administration that we are taking too much time doing the MDS, they say it should only take 20 minutes to do a MDS. Can anyone help me find the time studies that have been done. It sure would help to show the powers that be it takes much longer. They have been told by consultants that AANAC is the ultimate in MDS info, so hopefully they will believe it if the info comes from here, thanks. Deb
