Hey Claudia,

Hang in there.  You are stressed, probably on the way to being depressed (if you haven't actually arrived there already!)

I gave my notice yesterday, about 5 hours after writing the previous email.  I came in the door (at 7:45 PM) with a smile on my face for the first time in a couple of months.

NOELLE,  remember I said that one of the most important things is to know when to cut your losses and move on???  Well,  right now I know.  It is amazing to me that what seems like an ideal job situation can turn to absolute hell in a matter of a few months.

Were the nurses expressing negative stuff about you, the facility, the management or a combination of the above?  Not that it makes you feel any better at the moment, it's just something to think about.  As for the tears, I understand where you are coming from.  When I went to the administrator and overseer a couple of weeks ago with my concerns about the DON, I cried, and it really ticked me off. Nothing like crying in front of male bosses to make you feel at a disadvantage.

Claudia, Honey,  take some time this weekend ( if you are not working or on call like I am) and write out your career goals, the pros and cons of staying where you are, and what it would take to make you contented.  That really helped me to make my decision this week.

Thinking about you..

Let's see, the 24 hr I have cried more than I have in years. I have always have had pride in the fact that I keep it(my emotiong) behind closed doors. Be professional right? Last night I was asked at 8:45 pm to go give medications to the private condos owners that are attached to my facilit. These little people were expecting their meds on or before 8P. This is following my day of inservices for the staff, you know the generic, clean the shower rooms, answer call lights timely, check your residents for inc episodes Ya da Ya Da ... You have been there right? A consulting nurse comes in to inservice the "nurses" on medications, how to order, notify the Md, basic stuff. I decided to leave and allow the nurses to be themselves w/o management, considering the DON/ADON were inservicing the CNA's on the same stuff seperately. Only to have the consulting nurse to come to me afterwards and stay........Oh my God. The staff definately expressed themselves, horribly and unprofessionally. So when I went back to pass the pills, A po or EXCELLENT nurse in the facility I walked up to, I asked for the keys next door, I just starting crying and have done this on and off all way. Her eyes watered over, she has never seen me like this.  What is wrong w/me?

I had an opportunity to do something different last fall, and it wasn't the right time for me to leave then.  Now I am feeling strongly that I can't do this job here any longer.

Employees were told all time was lost and they started at square one as of Jan. 1 2004. Also told vacation was to be taken between may 30 and sept. 1st for the entire facility. I had been off the week before because of my honeymoon and was told although the administrator approved it 1 month prior it would not be vacation because all vacation had been lost. One emplyee had taken her last two weeks vac. prior to retirement and was depending on this check to carry her over until retirement kicked in and was denied her pay. What do you think of someone who would be this unethical and immoral? nursing staff already work at dangerously short ratios. Decubitus ulcer are on the rise, wgt loss has gone up, complaints from families and physicians and morale is nonexsistant. does anyone have a suggestion? I am already job hunting. The really sad part is there were good staff here and at one time c ared. I feel now care in negligent and it scares me.
