We have a 50 bed TCU where we give numerous IV meds,
including drips and pushes,. Our RNs do give IV Push
Digoxin.
However, we are a nursing home that is physically attached
to our hospital, the hospital code team responds to codes
here, we have on-site PAs 24hours. These are the conditions
under which we feel comfortable permitting this practice.
We developed our IV policy in collaboration with our
Medical Director and our Pharmacist.
Our nurses go through the hospital nurse orientation and
training.
There aren't any state regs about what meds can/cannot be
given, but we are always responsible to assure that our
staff are competent and that any treatments they do are
reasonable for the services provided.

Dear Listmates:
  I have 3 questions. Please:
1} Does any one know where I can get a list of IV meds used
in Nursing homes?
2} Is a nitro drip used in NHs for residents or only
hospital Pts.?
3} How many of you have seen this in your homes? Is it
legal? It is safe?
I don't think so, needs closed monitoring BP, etc., I would
like to hear what
you have to say on this matter.
Thank you.
my fax is 305-633-7593

Sincerely,
BestLittleNurse
