If they are not gone 24 hours you do not have to start the PPS schedule over again.  Our state requires us to do a discharge tracking form any time a Resident is gone at midnight for medical reasons (ER/hospital).  If they come back less than 24 hours we just continue them on their current PPS schedule and add a day to their stay.  Ex: if their 100th day was going to be
5/29/2004 we would add a day and their 100th day would then be 5/30/2004. If they are not in bed at midnight you can't bill for that day and that't why they get another day added on.

We are a Skilled unit had a pt for over 30 days we sent to ER at 10  pm with resp distress the pt was transferred to OBS less that 24 hours sent back to us by 11am should we discharge return anticipated  and start over with a 5 day MDS are leave like it is and not change anything?
