I would be careful about coding M6c and M6f if the ulcer was on the ankle as some reviewers are stating that the ankle is not the foot.

Subject: coding section M

Hi
I have  a patient that had a stage 2 pressure ulcer on the ankle during the look back period for the quarterly MDS.Duoderm was ordered. The area scabbed over during the look back period.

How would you code in section M?
I would code in M1 stade 2,M2 pressure ulcer,M6c open lesions of the foot,M6f applications of dressings. Is that correct?

Another question-if duoderm is used to protect a site (ex, Trach site, hip area etc.) and there are no open areas would you code it as m5g-application of dressings or i-other preventive or protective skin care?

Thanks
