Who does the unskilled MDS's and Careplans???My facility has 112 beds, all duly certtified, plus 12 Rest home beds. Medicare runs between 15-24. Our empty beds are usually filled as quick as they become available, as we almost always have a waiting list. There are 2 MDS coordinators. I do all of the Medicare residents, plus one hall. Hallf of my hall is RH. (The Medicare residents are scattered through all four halls.) The other MDS coordinator does all the other 3 halls. The RH residents don't require MDSs, but do get a careplan on same schedule as the SNF residents. This pretty fair workload wise as I tend to have multiple assessments on fewer residents and she has less assessments on more residents. We've talked about doing something different from time to time, but the truth is I prefer Medicare and am more experienced @ it, and she doesn't particularly like Medicare. So, we just continue doing it the same way.-.. Also, the other disciplines do their sections of the MDS & their RAPS, but the MDS Coordinator does the whole Careplan.

I'm sure these questions have been asked many times before... Who does the UNSKILLED MDS's and Care Plans in your facility? How many residents do you have? Who has a helper that does some of the MDS's and care plans? Does she do anything else? Who goes to the care plan meetings? What kind of problems are you having, if any? We are thinking of changing some things at our facility to make everything go smoother. Thank you in advance. Karen
