I agree with Nathan.   The ARD was set before she went to the hospital.  Whatever happens after the ARD you would not count on the MDS anyway.  She may not be in the building at the time you are completing it but she was in the building during the observation period.
page 2-2 of the manual states "When a resident is readmitted to the hospital and an OBRA required assessment is due during the resident's absence, the facility has up to 14 days after the resident's readmission to complete the assessment"  In the situation you described the Resident was in the facility during the observation period so you could do the assessment.

I totally disagree. Since you have an ARD, it appears you have started the assessment. The ARD was prior to her leaving for the hospital so what may happen during that hospital stay is irrelevant. Do the assessment as you normally would. Get that R2b date on time to avoid complaince issues.

NO you can not do the assessment when she is not in the building.  I realize you know her very well, but she may have something else going on that you can't tell about while she is in the hospital.  What you need to do is first, make a note in the chart that her assessment was due on (put in date) but she is in the hospital.  When your res. returns then make a note that she was re-admited to the facility, and that you will be monitoring for 14 days.  Then due the assessment at the end of the 14 days.  Does that make sense?  But you can not do an assessment on a person who is not in the building.  It would be like your doctor telling the insurance company that he done a pap smear on you, but on the day it was to be done, you were in the Carribean on a cruise.

Subject: Resident out to Hospital! Need ASAP Please!

Hello Everyone,
I need some clarity please! I have a resident who was admitted to the hospital on 03/14. 03/15 was day 92 for a quarterly assessment(Medicaid). I am sure she will return in a couple of days therefore I d/ced her with return anticipated. My question is now what do I do when she comes back to the facility. Her ARD was 03/08 so technically I have 7 days of look back info. Can I do this assessment without her here? I know this resident very well and have contact almost daily. Thanks! A.Corn
