I think this may be one for Rena to answer, because you will probably get several answers. I have done many assessments with the resident not in the building, as long as they were in the building during the assessment period. How else would you get paid for a 5 day assessment if the resident died on day 7 or went to the hospital and than died a week later. If you did discharge prior to completion you will take the default rate, and nobody wants that rate. Good Luck in your choice of assessments.
