Lot's of times, it's more that they are being undressed by strangers, having their
genitals manipulated by strangters, etc. Often, our showers are cold and drafty, and
just as impersonal as the showers for the GI inductees! Institutional showers are
always a bit intimidating. Remember the last time you showered before getting in a
public pool? Whenever possib le, I put a patient gown on them, and start the shower
with the gown on. I use the soapy rag and wash UNDER the gown, then lift it up and
rinse.. I can do the skin check when the showers done, and I wrap the towel around
them to remove the gown. It's easier to teach to the nursing assistants by doing it,
instead of explaining it, so I do a lot of baathing.
