No you cannot call the FI and get this information. There is no easy way to do this. I would start with your billing department looking her up on the Medicare on-line system. But this is only as accurate as the bills that have been submitted. Your best source of information is the resident and/or her family. They need to give you an accurate list of all facilities she has been in since this spell of illness started. I would emphasize to them the importance of a complete list and let them know if you find she has exhausted her days they will be billed privately. Then you need to call the facilities to verify coverage and sort of build yourself a puzzle picture of her stays. Unfortunately Medicare puts the burden of collecting this information on the facility. Hope this helps.

Can you call the Fiscal Intermediary and get this information? -----Original Message----- From: Baker, Margaret (SNMH) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, March 19, 2004 11:12 AM To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: REMAINING MEDICARE DAYS Our Case Manager/Discharge Planner needs to know how to easily find out if a pt that acute care wants to send to us has any remaining Medicare days and how many they might have. Isn't there some way she can find this out? Especially for pts who are also in and out of other Skilled Nursing Facilities in addition to our Acute Care hospital and attached Transitional Care Facility---and all of this may be part of the same illness with no healthy period in between. /---------------------------------------------------------- The Case Mix Discussion Group is a free service of the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordinators "Committed to the Assessment Professional" Be sure to visit the AANAC website.
