I do not code it unless they have ambulated (either alone or with assistance) during the lookback period.  If they are not ambulatory because of history of unsteady gait (for example, they now have a waist belt due to persistent falls) then I address that in the RAP and care plan, but don't code for it.

I would love to hear from more people on Coding "Usteady gait" if the resident does not walk. Do you not code it because they do not walk or do you code it to justify one of the reasons they do not walk? Thank you in advance.
