In my facility, both NAC's are required to be on call for 24 hrs a day for a 7 day stretch. What really bites is that our nurse scheduler is a friend of our DON, so if the scheduler doesn't do her job and make sure we are appropriately staffed, it's no big deal. They know we will have to work if short staffed, so the scheduler doesn't do much. The on call policy was started to alleviate the DON from getting alot of calls at home - but it has become a source for pool staff. If you can avoid on call - do it AT ALL COSTS!!! ----Mike

Hi everyone:
How many of the MDS Coordinators out there are required to take nursing "on call" rotation for your facilities?
Appreciate any and all answers!
Thanks!
