I just spoke with the LA County OMBUDSMAN office
and Los Angeles Adult Protective Services regarding the potential AMA Discharge
that was discussed earlier.
The OMBUDSMAN states that the facility may call
them as long as the resident is still in the facility. Once the resident leaves,
whether AMA or just walks out, the OMBUDSMAN no longer has any jurisdiction. If
the staff are concerned for the welfare of the resident that has left, the
OMBUDSMAN recommends that either the police or APS be notified. APS agrees with that recommendation. They further state that
if the resident, by virture of being out of the facility, is in immediate danger
that the police be called first. The APS website states,
When abuse, neglect or
self-neglect is suspected to have occurred in the community, report either to
the local law enforcement agency or to:
Adult Protective
Services Centralized Intake Unit 3333 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 400 Los
Angeles, CA 90010
Telephone: 888 / 202-4CIU (888 / 202-4248) Fax: 213 /
738-6485
A resident that walks out of a facility, and is believed to be
being unable to care for themselves falls into the "self-neglect" category.
As mandatory reporters, nurses must notify APS in writing when an
issue of safety is involved. The facility may fax the forms to the local APS
office.

Hello,
it's me again,
This obviously has been my day for unsolvable
problems. I need an icd 9 code for "dementia with psychotic/agitated
features". Can't find that particular combination anywhere in my icd
9 books.
Thanks again for all your help.
