Sorry I haven't introduced myself sooner but I'm a bit
overwhelmed.. I signed up and then was unable to get
online for a few days..Now I'm back and there are over
900 new messages in about 1 week... That's amazing but
a bit daunting!! I have read many, learned a lot and
deleted a few. Tonight I will delete the rest and
start anew!
My Story:
My name is Heidi I am 45 years old. I was dx'd
September 25 2003. That in itself is a crazy story but
I tell it some other time. At dx my wbc's were 455,000
hgb 5.7 hct 16 platelets 60,000. I was working full
time, a single mom 2 kids and a caregiver for my 76
year old mom. I was wiped out..Started all the routine
meds Hydrea etc immediatly and then Gleevec in a
couple of months. My day to day (or week to week
)hemotology is terrific, wbc around 4.5 hgb 10 hct 39
plts 180 etc.. BUT... my last BMB still showed 100%
PC+ and a new abnormality of trisomy 8?? I am now
prepping for a BMT to take place in early March at
UCLA. The bone marrow registry has found 3 perfect
matches as I have no eligible family members. This is
a very scary time for me, Did I mention single mom 2
kids (12 & 9 )no family, full time job home etc.. I
will be working up to 2 weeks before hospitalization
but I need to get my life in order!!
Had a BMB this morning all I can do is hope for a
MAJOR change in my status, but I am determined to go
ahead for a cure, no options other than that. My kids
need me, my Mom needs me, And even my job needs me so
I have to be confident that this is how it will go.
I would love to hear pearsonnly form people who have
gone the BMT route, I know it won't be fun but I feel
well and strong now, will this be helpfull later??
