Roger, I can understand what you are going through. I am 31 (almost 32) and have been figthing CML for about 9 months now. Though I have reached CCR and my PCR levels are lowering, I'm still considering a BMT. There are many reasons I'm thinking about it. Like you, I don't know what the future has in store for me. I feel fine on Gleevec, but what about 1-5-10-20 years down the road? Will it still work? Some doctors say yes, others say no. Since there is no long term evidence yet, I have to be cautious. My gut feeling is that Gleevec, AMN, or BMS should do it's job for a very long time, but who knows!! I'm also worried that the longer I have CML, the harder it will be for me to have a successful BMT (if necessary). Not to mention, I currently have 2 MUD's. That may not be the case in 5 years. Problem is my doc doesn't want me to have a BMT, unless I really need it. I'm being treated at City of Hope in Duarte, and he is a very good doctor. I do trust him, but I can't help but think about all the "what if's". The decision for me is not an easy one. Fortuantely I still have some time to think about it, but I too am leaning toward the BMT. Since you are young and strong, now would be the time to move forward. You may also try increasing your dosage. I am currently on 800mg (very few side effects). We all know it's a risky procedure, but it's still the only know cure. That may not be the case 10 years from now, BUT... Any thoughts from others would be much appreciated. God bless and stay strong!!
