Hi Alicia,

My dx came April of 2004, I suffer from bone pain, fatigue, muscle cramps,
and nausea, I eat tums like candy..lol
Anyway to answer your question I was lucky and the job I had did have
excellent LTD benefits, in fact I can draw until 2030 according to a letter
I got from Aetna. My side effects have been pretty constant since I started
on Gleevec, so I have been off work since, in fact Aetna has hired a company
to help me get Social Security. That is so they do not have to pay the full
amount if I am out for a long long time. I had a desk job as a fraud
investigator for a credit card processing company and did try to go back in
July but lasted less than a week. The thing to remember is no company is
going to give you special paid time off, or sick days, so you have to
becareful or else they could terminate you and then you are screwed. I would
advise going out on disabilty if you can until you are sure you can go back
to work and stay working.
